Already in the second semester of DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES, you choose your individual field of application to benefit from highly practice-relevant digital projects.

Thus, you early gain experience in various modern fields of economy and industry. Please find a detailed description of the six multifaceted areas in the following. Apply here to shape the future!

Field of Application #1

Autonomous systems: Efficient application of Artificial Intelligence

Autonomous systems with artificial intelligence will take on various tasks and functions.
Based on the collection of sensory data, on machine perception and robotics, autonomous systems reach unexpected fields of application. Autonomous systems include not only robots but also vehicles and virtual assistants. Autonomous nurse robots can support people with physical or cognitive impairments. The security and performance of mobility and logistic systems can be increased. Autonomous systems can also replace humans in hazardous environments. Digitalization leads to the decentralization of control and monitoring tasks and the spreading of local intelligent systems which perform subtasks autonomously. The significance of “autonomous driving” is generally known and has been the focus of industry and politics for some years. Even though the first autonomous vehicles are already being tested on public roads, fully autonomous vehicles still pose enormous technical challenges. One of the key issues is the correct interpretation of the traffic situation in the area around the autonomous vehicle. Autonomous systems will autonomously solve subtasks while being connected directly or via security-critical IT-infrastructure to other autonomous systems.

Circular Economy and Environmental Engineering: Intelligent recovery of raw materials

Raw material preparation, recycling and remediation of contaminated areas and treatment of industrial wastewater are the focus area of research and teaching.
Scarcer  and more expensive raw materials on the one hand and growing waste on the other hand push the society to efficiently use waste as a source for secondary raw materials. Environmental damages with treatment and disposal of unusable waste materials need to be prevented, contaminated sites need to be remediated.
Applying mechanical, chemical and thermal processes, intelligent recycling, soil and wastewater treatment processes can be developed.

Digital transformation Digitization of Added Value

The increasing digitalization has yielded various new and successful digital business models. At the interface with computer science, new innovations keep developing and with this the chance to develop new digital business models and processes. In addition to some fundamentals of business informatics related to management of digital transformation, this specialization covers topics of business model development and innovation management which can structurally accompany innovation processes towards digital added value, digital artifacts and digital processes.

Energy: Solve energy problems sustainably

Humanity’s energy supply has become one of today’s most important topics regarding mobility as well as heat and electricity supply of private homes and industry. In accordance with state of the art technology, mostly fossil fuels are used as primary energy sources. Raw material shortages and climate change require the increased use of regenerative energy sources and lower consumption.Qualified engineers are needed to develop and enhance different technologies for energy conversion. The diversity of the subject area “Energy”, calls for a broad education and training.
 The Bachelor program DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES links the knowledge of current digitalization technology with application-specific fundamentals which are essential to solving energy supply problems.

Industry 4.0: Making production processes fit for the future

Do you want to shape the future of production? As a “digital native“ you are familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of social networks and the Internet.
In this field of application, you will learn how production processes and structures shape the future. Teaching robots to work with humans, computer-controlling production or designing products for digital transformation, you will learn the necessary core concepts here. 
Due to many practical examples and projects in the field of application “Industry 4.0”, you will gain first experiences for perspective tasks in manufacturing companies or development departments of plant manufacturers. Typically, you will control production systems, which will keep self-optimizing in the future. For this, you need specialist knowledge on information processing, production processes and how to control them.

Mobility: Modern traffic management

With us, you will learn how to apply traffic and mobility research to the current problems of modern traffic management. That is why you can be employed in all traffic companies, but also in traffic control centers of transport operators, where you will generally take on managerial tasks after a short time. Airlines, railway companies, local transport operators and forwarding companies are among your potential employers as well as ports and airports. Further employers could be municipalities, regional or federal authorities concerned with traffic planning and management, and consulting companies and associations.
